If you are trying to optimize your site, start with producing relevant content and lots of it!

The Search Engine algorithms are very complicated and take a lot of factors into account. If you concentrate on your content you are more than half way home.

Here are a few pointers to get you going:

  1. Basic tags
Content starts with the basic structure of your site, blog or your social channel such as Facebook. Structures to review are items such as the domain name, title tags, and name of pages? Does it have your keywords in it? If yes good. If no, look at it again. Search engines look at all content and this is the very beginning of creating consistent keywords throughout your site.
A typical mistake is naming pages after your company name. Unless you are after a big branding push or have a very established brand this is wrong. Rename your pages and tags with the product & services you are promoting.
  2. Blog Content
The more the better as long as it is relevant. The best case study is wiki. The more you can write the more search will love you. The misnomer is that your reader wants to read it. That is mostly incorrect. Google wants it. The more you can prove to be an expert on a subject the more Google will publish your post.  Some companies have a staff of writers just posting all day. Does their consumer want that much info? Probably not. That does not mean to discount your reader. Be sure to be consistent and relevant. More and more readers will find you.
  3. Images
A picture says a thousand words. People love photos and so does Google SEO. Be sure to tag the pictures with the correct keywords and watch them move up the ranks. An extra plus is that your customers will love them.
  4. Video, Video & more Video
It is much harder for people to develop and post a video compared to text or pictures. Videos make unique and relevant content. Google wants content, especially videos, tagged to YouTube. You will be amazed how fast your video will rank once you post it and tag it correctly.
  5. Facebook
Have you noticed the Facebook entries in Google search? I have. Google is indexing content from Facebook. Better get there if you’re not!
  6. Press releases
The ultimate content plus linking tool created to web kind. The more often you get picked up by the press the more back links and content you have to be discovered.  Keep writing and releasing the content and make sure it is keyword rich.
  7. Your website
It all leads back home. Whether your main website is a blog, Facebook page, or a traditional corporate website new relevant content is king. Keep Posting.
