Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I purchase a Domain Name?

A: Go to http://www.obtainyourname.com/ to check availability and purchase your domain name.
Q: What is the charge for domain name registration?

A:

The cost for registering or renewing a new domain name is $19.95 (US) for 1 year.

Updates that are not covered by this fee are: changes to the domain name itself; transfers of the domain name to another party; changes in the Organization's information that in effect represent a transfer of the domain name to another legal entity. These actions require a new registration to be processed, which will be subject to a new registration fee.

Q: How long should registration take?

A:

Registrations generally take less than 24 hours to process.

Q: What is the payment procedure for a new domain name?

A:

You may make payments on our secure site using a credit card.

Q: How many email accounts are included with my registration?

A: 10
Q:

How do I renew my domain name?

A: Go to www.obtainyourname.com. If you have further questions, call our main office 704-365-9970 x.102.
Q: What is the procedure for renewing my domain name?

A:

You will receive an email 30 days before your domain expires reminding you to renew.  You may also choose to have your domain name automatically renew at the time you set up your account.

Q: What is the longest term a domain may be registered for?

A: 10 years
Q: I would like domain names for my family and my business.

A: You can register any domain names, personal or business by visiting www.obtainyourname.com . Register single or multiple domain names for 1-10 years.
Q: What is a domain name?

A: A domain name is similar to a permanent phone number or address. A domain name allows you to receive e-mail at a customized e-mail address. If your organization's name is Example, Inc., you could register the domain name EXAMPLE.COM and your e-mail address could be user_name@example.com. Your customers will be able to access your organization's WWW site by visiting www.example.com with their Web browser.
Q: Where will my domain name reside when it is registered?

A: Domains registered through Clickcom.com or ObtainYourName.com will be pointed at your website after you select a hosting package. The domain is registered with you so only you have the authority to make changes. If you currently have hosting with another provider and wish to transfer your new domain name to an active website, go to obtainyourname.com and follow the instructions. If you need a hosting service please see our hosting packages or call 704.365.9970 or 800.656.2555.
Q: Once a domain is registered, who "owns" the domain name--the service provider or the client?

A:

The organization or individual who registers the domain names owns that domain.  It is important to note that the organization name cannot be modified or changed. If a domain is being transferred to another organization it must be deleted and re-registered as a new domain.

Q: What are the valid characters for a domain name and how long can it be?  Is "http://www" part of the domain name?

A:

The only valid characters for a domain name are letters, numbers and a hyphen "-". Other special characters like the underscore "_" or an exclamation mark "!" are NOT permitted.  A domain name can be up to 26 characters long including the 4 characters used to identify the Top Level Domain (.com).

Http://www.example.com is a uniform resource locator (URL) used by WWW browsers to find documents and resources on the WWW.  It is NOT part of the domain name and should not be included when you register.

Q: How do I determine the status of my domain name registration?

A:

Registrations are typically processed within 24 hours. Upon completion of the domain name registration you will receive a confirmation email. The new domain name record will show up in the publicly-accessible Who Is database within 24 hours after the Agreement has been processed.

To check on the status of your domain name, go to the Whois database database and type in the domain name you registered. If processing is complete, your query will return your domain name record.

Q: Why are some domain names "On Hold"?

A: The Whois database will show a status of "On Hold" if
  • payment for the domain is not current
  • the domain name is involved in a trademark dispute
  • pending server activation
